Photo A Day: An annual project which sees me taking a photo of my children, every day, for the months of December and January.
My very own Royal Family.
A little bit of trivia: when we were living in the UK, we went to see The Grand National at Aintree. On our travels that day, we decided we loved the names “Harrison James” and “Grace” and that we might like to use them one day if we were blessed with children. Lo and behold, a few years later we found ourselves pregnant with baby #1 and funnily enough, we never strayed from those names. Harrison James was born, but if he had been a she, he would have been Grace.
As he grew up, everyone started calling him Harry – us included. He most certainly is a Harry too, it suits him very much. So when we were pregnant with baby #2, of course Grace became an option for a girls name, but the standout name for us this time around was William. Oh, how we loved the name. Yet, two weeks prior to his birth we lay in bed contemplating whether or not we would be teased for having Harry and William, the same names as the sons of Charles and Diana. We were sure we would…but we loved the name so much that we decided it wasn’t a horrible “pay out” and that we could cope with having the Royal Family after all. If he had been a she, again, he’d have been Grace.
By the time we were pregnant with baby #3, people joked that we would need to call the baby Anne, or Edward, or Phillip, or Zara, or many other Royal names. It was hilarious, and we have never taken offense to the giggles about our two boys names.
Behind closed doors we were toying with a few new contenders for girls names, and we couldn’t agree on a boys name. Baby #3 was truly the hardest of our babies to name – we just weren’t sure. But when she was born, there was no other name for her but Grace. She surprised me greatly – I was sure we’d have another boy.
But instead, we had a girl – Grace Amelia, our little pink Princess…just like Princess Grace of Monaco.
It took a few days before the first person picked up that it was yet another Royal name, though soon enough more and more people clicked. We don’t care, in fact we find it kind of funny now.
Here they are, my very own Royal offspring (hehe!).
